One for the other side!
So this started on myspace where I found a list of "How To Be A Good Democrat". And although some of the statements are extreme, they make some good points. You can view the list and discussion of the list here, as discussed with a most trusted conservative friend.

And so this morning, I found a list from  the other side about "How To Be A Good Republican". Interesting...

*Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary
Clinton.

*Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's
daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney then did business with
him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find bin Laden"
diversion.

*Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade
with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

*The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our
highest national priority is enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq.

*A woman cannot be trusted with decisions about her own body, but
multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind
without regulation.

*The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in
speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

*If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

*A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies,
then demand their cooperation and money.

*Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing
health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance
companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

*Global warming and tobacco's links to cancer are junk science, but
creationism should be taught in schools.

*A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable
offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which
thousands die is solid defense policy.

*Government should limit itself to the powers named in the
Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the
Internet.

*The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but
George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

*Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a
conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers
for your recovery.

*Support of "Executive Privilege" only for every Republican ever born
who will be born or who might be born (in perpetuity.)

*What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but
what G.W. Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

*Support the hunters who shoot their friends and blame the victims for
wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

*I mean, think about it. Other than the war in Iraq, the Katrina
disaster, the deficit, the CIA leak, torture, stopping stem cell
research, homeland security, global warming and undercutting science,
we've yet to really feel the negative effects of the Bush
administration." -- Bill Moyers

Disagreeing with people is not hating them, unless you're a Liberal. If Liberals don't know the difference, that's because they are truly Fascists. If you can't disagree with a person, the enforcement of not allowing people to disagree is Fascism, and utterly contrary to free speech. Thus the first statement could be rewritten

- Jesus loves you, you're not allowed to speak against Liberals because they say so, and Hillary Clinton is a Liberal.

In which case I'm in need of a little of that love. Elsewhere;

- Saddam was a bad guy all of the time, but at times he was surrounded by those who were conceivably even worse from the point of view of American national interest. Those who dealt with him were not so much exercising choice, but facing a dilemma. There was a time when every policy regarding the outside world was dominated by the need to oppose Soviet influence. Who changed that? Ronald Reagan. How? By not being a Liberal in foreign policy terms.

- Cuba is neither Vietnam or China, as can easily be told by going to any of them. This comment is perhaps thirty years out of date. Try getting a competitive quote for manufactured goods from Cuba, and you'll see what the difference is.

- Liberals cannot be trusted with the bodies of the unborn, and simply presume that they the unborn should have no rights because they say so. No one may disagree with Liberals saying this, because they are Liberals. Half of all fetuses are unborn women. Do they get a choice?

- How long does society have to keep providing every means for preventing contraception to children before society realises that all they have ever done is to increase teenage pregnancy rates? How long does it go on before Liberals notice there is a connection?

- Nothing belittles a long-term ally better than destroying the quality of American troops by introducing conscription, then finding that foreign policy commitments cannot be fulfilled with an unwilling military.

- Atheism and secular humanism are religions according to the US courts. As long as there can be no prayer in schools, there should be no atheism or secular humanism either. What will be left of the curriculum? Huh?

- There exists no evidence for Bush lying, only for him having been given poor advice by the secret services, in common with 29 other heads of state who felt it best to support America by sending troops to Iraq, but who are belittled by Democrats when they choose to forget this.

- If Moyers intends that the wishes of the founders be respected when interpreting the Constitution, most American judges would have to be sacked in order to achieve that, and he would then leave the country when he found out what he had let himself in for. And the term 'gay marriage' is an abuse of the word marriage; just because people want to say there is such a thing, does not mean that there is. Has Moyers ever looked at the rates of unfaithfulness and physical abuse in homosexual partnerships as opposed to heterosexual marriages? If these were both 'marriage', there ought to be no difference - but instead, there is no comparison.

- Being a drug addict is a term that only means anything when it involves breaking the law. Making desperate efforts to twist the law in order to persecute those with difficulties, is an addiction to self-righteousness and false comparisons.

- Show me why the buses were floating around in New Orleans and the city had no disaster plan that covered a hurricane, and I'll show you why people died there. Does Florida have problems with preparing for hurricanes? N.O., funnily enough.
